LeonCaves

Our story

Born in a cave. Hidden for a reason.

Leon Caves was started by a León family that has owned a clay cellar in Valdevimbre for four generations. We never wanted to run a tourism business. We wanted to share something we love with people who would respect it.

The cellars

Valdevimbre's underground cellars ("bodegas subterráneas") were dug a thousand years ago, room by room, into the soft earth of the riverbed. Each family had one. Wine fermented inside; food was cured inside; weddings happened inside. They are still there — most of them sealed.

Why us

We grew up in our grandfather's cellar. We learned to taste in it. We helped our family bottle prieto picudo by hand. When friends from London, New York and Berlin started asking to come visit, we realised there was no way for them to do this without us. So we built one — small, slow, ours.

What you get

A private guide who speaks your language. A car from your hotel and back. A real winery — never the tourist circuit. A family table inside a real cave. The León you came for, without the queues.

How we host

  • Small, never large

Six guests maximum. We host a single party at a time.

  • Local, never staged

Real cellars, real winemakers, real León food. No re-creations.

  • English, always

Every experience is led in English. Spanish, French and German on request.

  • Slow, never rushed

The cave is the destination. Once you're inside, time stops mattering.
